Tips, Tricks & Trends for Planning a Memorable Fall Festival

No matter what you call your big event or festival, incorporating the latest trends into your school, church, or community festival is a sure way to boost profits, increase turnout, and deliver more fun for everyone. If you’re ready to start planning and creating memories for this year’s Fall Festival, check out some of the inspirations and fall festival ideas here.

Fall Festival Ideas and Organization

Get organized for Fall Festival

The first step that you need to do when it comes to this type of event or festival is to organize a committee for your festival. Planning a school fall festival or church fall festival by yourself is just simply not feasible so you will need other people to help you with various tasks and come up with ideas that will make the event or festival successful. Members will have different roles depending on who’s in charge of food, activities, invitations, and so on.

For example, one person is in charge of organizing food, one person is in charge of invitations, one person is in charge of competitions, one person is in charge of games, and so on. If you are planning a festival on a really large scale, you may wish to assign two or even three people to each job. Discuss topics such as location, date, and guest list.

Venue

You may wish to hold your festival outside, which is entirely appropriate. However, because the weather can be unpredictable at this time of year, it is also a very good idea to have an alternate indoor location, perhaps the gym, which you can set up in case of rain. Once you have decided on an alternate indoor venue, be sure that you include this information in your festival invitations.

Fall Festival Decor

Seasons change, and so should your decor. Welcome the arrival of fall and Thanksgiving guests with gorgeous decorations both indoors and out. The Fall Festival decor you use should foster church or school spirit.  Custom tablecloths are useful items that can be produced in colors. Other fall decor ideas include streamers, balloons, and pompoms.

Fall Festival Games and Activities

Holidays like Thanksgiving, Halloween, and all the autumn harvest festivals, can play a huge part in creating those feelings of togetherness. Fall sports and pumpkin carving contests can add friendly competition, while outdoor activities such as scavenger hunts and picnics play a huge part in creating those feelings of camaraderie.

Above all, Fall events should get people excited to see each other, and leave them better friends, co-workers, and teammates. Here are some inspiring ways to bring a little autumn spirit to your next event:

Eye on the Prize – Fall Festival Games

  • Treasure Box – This is a Fall Festival Game wherein kids dig for prizes in a sand-filled aquarium.
  • Door Prizes – As they enter, participants get tickets for a drawing held later.
  • Treasure Dig – Kids dig around in a kiddie pool filled with plastic foam packing peanuts and small toys.
  • Fall Cheap Thrills – Order inexpensive fall fest prizes from the dollar store.
  • Church Donations – Have a sign-up sheet for church members to donate specific prizes or booth supplies.
  • Fall Prize Finds – Request giveaways, promotional items, and gift certificates from restaurants, stores, and companies in your area.
  • Candy Admission – Have kids bring a bag of individually wrapped candies to be given away as prizes.
  • Toy Collection – Have kids bring a clean toy, stuffed animal, or game they’ve outgrown as their admission. Give a ticket value to each prize. Kids can cash in tickets for prizes—a la Chuck E. Cheese’s style.
  • Fall Sucker Tree – Kids pull suckers from a Pegboard. The color of the sucker handle corresponds to a prize.
  • Fall Hula Hoop Contest – Play some fun music and invite kids and adults to compete in many categories such as longest time hooping, most hoops, best trick, holding hands, etc.

Fall Craft Ideas for Children

  • Fall Masquerade – Kids make masks out of paper plates.
  • Art Mural – Hang a roll of newsprint and let kids create a masterpiece.
  • Fall Crazy Caps – Kids decorate old baseball caps by gluing on beads, buttons, ribbons, sequins, feathers, and fabric scraps.
  • Swirl Painting – Kids make fall art designs from a swirl painting kit—available at toy stores.
  • Fall Pumpkin Decorating – Give kids craft supplies and markers for no-mess decorating.
  • Fall Creation Station – Kids create art with this “putty”: Stir 4 tablespoons of glue and a few drops of food coloring in a bowl. Add a few teaspoons of dissolved borax water solution. Stir. Then squeeze it like dough. Provide water for washing hands and plastic bags for the putty.

Never Miss a Thing in your Fall Festival

Happy Fall You All

Whether your festival is for family and friends, your neighborhood, local school, college, or church, it is a fun way to meet people. Organizing a fall festival is a big undertaking, but early planning and organization are the keys to creating a successful event.

When hosting a fall festival, be prepared. Have plenty of volunteers to help out for your festival and schedule them in shifts, so everyone has time for work and play. This is a great opportunity for families to serve together. Have enough food ready.

With some time, a few simple supplies, and the right people, your school or church can host an amazing, non-boring, fun fall festival or fair! Create activities that are enjoyable for the whole family.
