Campion Trails – Irving, Texas

Campion Trails is a scenic, 22-mile greenbelt along the Elm Fork and West Fork of the Trinity River. It features expansive river views and offers a variety of nature, from birds and snakes to flowers, trees, and shrubs. While most of the trails are open and accessible, additional trail segments are built each year so there’s always something new to explore. Maps are conveniently placed along the trails, making it easy to get around and explore different corners of the park.

Campion Trails Activities

All of the paths are paved along Campion Trails, which means easy hiking or biking no matter the weather. Cyclists love Campion Trails because the concrete paths are wide and flat, ideal for an outing by bike. Families will enjoy that the trails are easy for all levels of hikers and bikers, making it accessible for any age to enjoy a day of exploring the park’s lush green spaces. And of course, don’t forget your pup! All dogs on a leash are welcome. 

The longer northern section of the park follows the Elm Fork of the Trinity River and is a popular commuting route and activity space. The trail begins in the Valley Ranch community at Sam Houston Trail Park and travels south from there to Las Colinas. The southern section of the park follows the West Fork of the Trinity River. Here, you’ll find drinking fountains, restrooms, picnic shelters, grills, and athletic fields. Additional amenities can be found along the way at Twin Wells Park and Mountain Creek Preserve.

As you explore all that Campion Trails has to offer, be sure to stop at California Crossing Park, which is dedicated to the early travelers who crossed the Trinity River in this area. The park spans 30 acres of breathtaking parkland and water views for a picturesque spot to rest during your active day. Be sure to pack a picnic and take the time to enjoy this lovely green spot along the trail.

Unknown to most Dallas visitors, the Campion Trail offers some of the best bike riding in North Texas. This 22+ mile pathway will connect the West Fork and Elm Fork tributaries of the Trinity River. That said, its current format still offers a super-fun ride. The freshly laid concrete is level and wide – with scenery that is surprisingly lush and well-manicured. Plus, there’s even a bit of Texas outlaw history thrown in to keep things interesting.

Campion Trail is a 19.6 kilometer heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Irving, Texas that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on a leash.
