Old Lake Highlands – Dallas, Texas

Along the northeast side of White Rock Lake, the residents of Old Lake Highlands are proud of its 70-plus-year history and its unique position (elevation-wise) within the city, boasting a gorgeous view of the downtown skyline. One of Dallas ISD’s best-performing elementary schools, Hexter, also serves as a rallying point for residents.

Surrounded almost entirely by greenbelt and atop some of the highest elevation in Dallas, Old Lake Highlands consists of approximately 1,700 homes, most of which are one and two-story ranch-style homes and cottages built on pier and beam foundations.

Many of the homes still have their original hardwood floors. There are a few newer homes that replaced tear-downs, but Old Lake Highlands mostly still consists of original homes. Some of the homes in Old Lake Highlands have impressive views of downtown Dallas and White Rock Lake.

Walking Distance from White Rock Lake

Residents are within walking distance of White Rock Lake and its bike and jogging paths, as well as Norbuck Park and Bel Aire Park.

Downtown Dallas is approximately 10 miles away Northpark Mall is approximately five miles away, and residents are only a few miles from the Lakewood and Lower Greenville area shopping, restaurant, and nightlife areas.

Old Lake Highlands neighborhood was established in 1948 and consists of approximately 1,700 homes. It is bounded by Northwest Hwy (Hwy 78) on the North, Easton Rd on the East, Lake Highlands Drive on the South, and Buckner Blvd (Loop 12) on the West. It is less than a half mile from the shores of White Rock Lake and approximately 11 miles from downtown Dallas.

This neighborhood has a very active neighborhood association and a strong sense of community. The neighborhood association sponsors Volunteers in Patrol (VIP), local elementary school fundraisers, an Adopt-A-Shoreline group for White Rock Lake, and a yard of the month award. Architectural styles primarily consist of traditional ranch-style homes with a smattering of Tudors, mid-century modern, and Colonial revival style homes.

The neighborhood contains around 1,700 homes and is located inside the triangle formed by Lake Highlands Drive, Northwest Highway, and White Rock Lake. The area includes many parks along the creeks that feed into White Rock Lake including Norbuck Park at the southeast corner of Buckner and Northwest Highway.
