Carrollton is a city in Denton, Dallas, and Collin counties in Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 119,087, making it the 23rd-most populous city in Texas.
Most local historians believe Carrollton received its name from the hometown of early settlers, who came from Carrollton, Illinois. The name was officially established on May 16, 1878, when the first U.S. Post Office opened in Carrollton.
Carrollton’s early settlers arrived in the 1840s and purchased land from The Peters Colony. The settlers typically married young and had large families. An average cabin might have been only 12 x 14 feet and would hold two parents with seven children.
These hardy pioneers were rugged individuals with incredible courage to risk it all for their dream of a better life and an even better life for future generations.
The City of Carrollton continues to experience steady, diversified growth in all sectors of its economy, underpinned by ongoing growth in the Dallas Metroplex and in North Texas. Carrollton’s location, qualify of life, low taxes, high level of city services, low crime rate, competitive housing choices, and reasonable lease rates for Industrial, Office, and Retail space continue to differentiate Carrollton as a unique value within the Metroplex, Where Connections Happen.
