Mesquite Golf Club – Mesquite, Texas

The Mesquite Golf Club is a municipal course owned and operated by the City of Mesquite.  Located in the Duck Creek floodplain, it was built in the 1960s by Leon Howard.  Originally opening as a 9-hole course, it expanded to 154 acres and 18-holes two years later.

This 154-acre, the 18-hole golf course will provide hours of fun for both novice and expert golfers. Operated by the City of Mesquite, the course features a snack bar, pro-shop, and driving range, which is open from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The course has gained multiple awards throughout the years including Course of the Year by the Texas Turfgrass Association.

After several years of private management in the 2000s, the City resumed operations and the course underwent a massive renovation project in 2013.  The course expanded from 6,100 yards to 6,980 and included the addition of Champion Bermuda greens and 20 new bunkers.  Improvements were also made to the snack bar and pro shop adding public Wi-Fi access and an on-course restroom.

All the renovations have drastically altered the way the course is played, making it much more challenging, but with multiple tee locations, it still allows for a variety of skill levels. The course reopened in 2014 and was named Course of the Year by the Texas Turfgrass Association.

If you’re looking for a course where you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg, don’t mind average conditions, and you want to have a relaxing round and score well, then head on over to Mesquite Golf Club. This city-owned course has three sets of tee boxes, is short at 6280 from the tips, and it’s easy to shoot a great round here.

The fairways are flat to gently rolling, generally wide and forgiving, and a few are side by side with a line of trees down the middle. When we played in January the fairways and greens were dormant and not in very good condition. The good news was you got a lot of rolls which help your drives. We asked a couple of people if these were normal conditions and the answer in both cases was “it’s generally in a little better condition.”
